During my MBA at IESE in 1987, I learned the critical importance of effective meeting management. Not all meetings are the same, and each requires a tailored approach for maximum impact. We were taught to distinguish between three main types: decision-making, creative, and informational meetings.

Decision-making meetings are central to business strategy, where preparation and a clear agenda are crucial for reaching consensus-driven conclusions. Creative meetings, on the other hand, thrive in open environments that encourage idea generation and innovation without fear of judgment. Informational meetings focus on clarity and conciseness, ensuring everyone is aligned and well-informed.

These lessons have stayed with me throughout my career, helping me lead more efficient teams and make better decisions. As I reflect on these experiences, I fondly remember Professor Pere Agell, whose teachings on structured thinking greatly influenced my approach. His recent passing is a significant loss, but his legacy continues to guide those of us fortunate enough to have learned from him.
